Hello Vicky,

After food technology, you can find employment in the following sectors i.e. food processing industries, research laboratories, hotels, soft drink factories, rice mills, hospitality industry, packaging industries, manufacturing industries and distilleries.

The following job opportunities are available after completing a degree in food technology:

·         Food Inspector

·         Quality control and quality assurance section of any food industry

·         Teaching after M. Tech

·         Entrepreneurship opening own food processing business

·         If you want to go for masters in business then there are various options like Agribusiness courses or a specialised management degree from colleges like IRMA and symbiosis colleges.

·         Research and Development work in the food industry as well as in agriculture universities

·         Food Scientist in BIS and other national and international food standard regulatory bodies.

In the public sector, a candidate can get employed in companies like The Food Corporation of India, Modern Food Corporation, North-Eastern Agricultural Marketing Corporation, etc.

In the private sector, a candidate can find employment in companies like Amul, Cadbury, Britannia, Metro Diary, Hindustan Lever, Kellogs, Nestle, etc.

There are many good recruiters recruiting through campus such as Milk Mantra, IDMC, Tetra Pak, Coca-cola, Pepsi, ITC, Cargill etc and recruiting through a package of 4 LPA to 5 LPA or more.

Graduates also prepare and apply for various government exams such as FCI, ASRB, BIS, FSSAI etc. Depending on their reservations and postings in these government organisations, the graduate may earn well ranging up to ₹15,000 to 45,000 per month.

As a fresher, a Food Technologist can earn up to INR Rs 2 to 3 LPA in India.

Within 5 years, you can reach INR 500,000 to 640,000 per annum. With more experience, you can expect an annual package of INR 900,000 to 1,180,000. If you enjoy a lot of frequent travelling, then go for the roles of Food Inspector.

If you prefer Sales & Marketing including Brand Management role, the salary levels will be 20 to 25% higher than the R&D professionals. There will be extra incentives also for Sales & Marketing professionals. For nutritionist and dieticians, the average annual income is INR 210,000 for fresher; and Nutrition Managers can earn up to INR 750,000 per annum.

Hope this helps!
