Correct Answer: 25%

Solution : Given: John got 20% marks and failed by 10 marks.
Let the maximum marks be $x$.
According to the question,
⇒ $20$% of $x + 10 = 35$% of $x -20$
⇒ $\frac{7x}{20}-\frac{x}{5} = 10 + 20$
⇒ $\frac{15x}{100}  = 30$
⇒ $x = \frac{30 × 100}{15}=200$
The minimum passing marks are (35% of 200 – 20)
$=\frac{35}{100} \times 200 -20 = 70 - 20=50$
So, the percentage of minimum marks required to pass $=\frac{50}{200} \times 100=25$%
Hence, the correct answer is 25%.
