Correct Answer: Julie – 7 km/hr; Soma – 3 km/hr

Solution : Let's denote Soma's speed as S km/hr.
Since Julie walks 4 km/h faster, her speed is = S + 4 km/hr
After 4 hours, Soma has covered a distance of 4S km, and Julie has covered a distance of 4(S + 4) km.
The total distance they cover together in 4 hours is the sum of their distances:
Total Distance = 4S + 4(S + 4)
According to the question,
40 = 4S + 4S + 16
⇒ 40 = 8S + 16
⇒ 8S = 24
$\therefore$ S = 3
So, Soma's speed is 3 km/hr. Since Julie walks 4 km/hr faster, her speed is 3 + 4 = 7  km/hr.
Hence the correct answer is Julie – 7 km/hr; Soma – 3 km/hr.
