The cell is the smallest unit of living being. It is a single living entity that has its own life and it can reproduce itself. The cell consists of protoplasm, nucleus, ribosomes and chromosomes. The protoplasm contains all the elements necessary for life such as proteins, carbohydrates and lipids etc. The nucleus houses the genetic material which contains DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) which stores information about the individual’s characteristics like color, height, weight etc., Ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis in cells.
