The civil services examination needs speed, skill, and stamina as it is a three-stage examination and every stage is different from every other.
There are many candidates for whom English is one of difficult barrier to cross. Many student from Hindi belt and student from other remote area are not good in English language at all.
In prelims too,if you know English, you can understand some complex question more easily.
But it is main culprit at mains level, when if you did not score more than 25% in compulsory English paper, your other copy will not be checked. I know many candiadtes who didn't qualify in two attempt because of English language, but in 3rd attempt he focussed more on English than gs and optional, and finally got rank in top 25.
So, candidates from hindi medium should take care of this situation. Improve your vocabulary, write some essay in english, do some comprehension, read english newspaper etc. Believe me it is not so difficult. If you can prepare GS ,you can prepare English too.
