National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is an initiative by Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and  is a national level exam conducted to decrease students' dropout rate in classes 8 & 9 and encourage them to continue their studies to improve India's overall literacy rate. The last date to apply might vary for each state.
