Lateral Entry programme offers the admission direct into the second year of B.tech programme, You must have completed a diploma in your respective branch to be eligible for the lateral entry program. There are many state level & University level Entrance Exam for Lateral Entry programme.
Diploma holders can also apply for JEE Main Entrance Exam to be eligible for JEE Advance as they can get admission in IITs only for the programme, They are not eligible for JEE Main Admission.

It means you can not take admision in NITs, You can only apply for IITs for Lateral Entry programme which takes the admission through JEE Advance only so to be eligible for JEE Advance first you need to crack JEE Main.
So here we to qualify in both JEE MAINS AND JEE ADVANCE EXAMINATION mam not only JEE MAINS
Yes, To take admission IITs this is the procedure first you need to qualify JEE Main then JEE Advance.
This is only for diploma holders or all students mam
To take admission in NIT'S JEE MAINS is it enough mam.
So diploma holders have to qualify in both JEE MAINS AND JEE ADVANCE to take admission in college mam
I already told you that you can not get admission in NITs or Other JEE Main Participating institute. You can apply only IITs after having the required score in JEE Advance.
