M. Tech in structure engineering required to become a building design engineer after b. Tech in civil engineering?
Hi Sahil, when you say Building design engineer, then I am assuming you are referring to Structural Engineering. Technically speaking, to become a structural design engineer, the companies would expect that you have at least post graduate level qualification in structural Engineering. It could be either a Masters level qualification or post graduate diploma in Structural Engg. Although you can start working after B. Tech also, but more in-depth design codes and advances subjects are taught at post graduate level which you will need while designing structures of any type. Now, in India, most of the institutes offer masters in Structural Engg, not the PG Diploma.
Now, you need to have a strong fundamental knowledge about all design codes (depending on your location as different countries have different design standards). Apart from that, you also need to know construction processes being adopted in your geographical location. Other skills which are paramount are: - communication skills, reading drawings, knowing technical abbreviations, etc.
So, you would need to choose a good institution to provide you this solid education background. I can suggest few universities where you can study Masters in Structural Engg.
· Lovely Professional University
· Anna University
· Vellore Institute of Technology.
· Birla Institute of Technology.
· SRM University.
All the best for your career. Regards.
