Hello Jai,
Congrats for securing 80% in the 10th board!
Civil engineers create, improve and protect the environment in which we live. They design, build, operate, construct and maintain roads, buildings, airports, dams, bridges, and town water supply system and sewerage system. Civil engineers work in a variety of locations and conditions. They spend most of their time working in the office when they need to work on design and planning whereas have to go outdoors to construction sites for monitoring, supervising etc. A good civil engineer should have good decision-making skills since they have to manage projects, leadership qualities as they will have to guide a team working under them and good math and computational skills too. The scope of civil engineering is vast as there is a lot of diversity in work. You can work to design or plan buildings, or at a construction site to check whether the building plan is well-executed, or in roads and railways building and maintenance, or in water supply department of the town, or in surveying departments or as an environmentalist.
Now if you want to become a civil engineer you should first complete your 12th in Science stream. Appear for JEE exams or state engineering entrance exams after 12th for getting into good government institutes and then attain graduation degree(B.E./B.Tech.) in Civil Engineering or related discipline from any recognized institute. After B.Tech you will have many options open for you like:
i. Crack GATE examination and apply for PSUs(Public Sector Units) for a stable job as a civil engineer.
ii. Can prepare for Indian Engineering Services/State Engineering Services for a central government "Class A officer" job as a civil engineer.
iii. Campus placements through college or off-campus jobs in good construction companies or private firms and MNCs.
iv. Can do an MBA and then start your own business as a builder/contractor/consultant.
v. If you are interested in research you can go for higher studies such as M.Tech and then Ph.D.
hope it helps! If you have any further doubts feel free to ask.
All the best!
