management is a profession who said
Dear Aspirant,
Management today is one of the most outgrowing fields today in the world.
How is it a profession?
First of all, it has a body of knowledge which guides it. There a well-defined framework which acts as an instruction to the practice of management. For instance, there are a set of rules which guide every step such as planning or controlling, There are specific do's and do not's for each of these. This knowledge is imparted through various courses and colleges, the most famous among these degrees being MBA.
Second, there is restricted entry. There is always some eligibility criteria like an examination or studying a certain degree/diploma/course to pursue something in management. For instance, a person can become a CA only after passing the various levels and exams. But there is a catch. Any person can be called a manager at a certain level in the organisation irrespective of their educational qualification. But then again, a degree also becomes important for learning basic nuances of the work.
Third, there are specific associations which formulate its rules and regulations in every country. They are affiliated to a board or a council or an association that carries out function like regulating entries, maintaining the code of conduct, grants certificates and so on. An example of such an organisation is AIMA( All India Management Association).
Management is a service. It caters to the clients. Also, it has an ethical code of conduct. The goals of this section are very precise and depend upon the organisation, its employees and its working.
Hope this helps. All the best!
Hello Vishal,
Management is a professional course and nowadays management is a profession. Peter F Drucker said that management is a profession.
Management is having it's own controlling body that controls the actions of the managers and the company, similar to that of doctors and medical profession controlled by AIIMS. Lawyers are controlled by Bar council of India. Management is considered as a professional course because it is persuasive in nature and similar to other professional courses.
Thank you
