Well even with 40k rank it is certainly possible that you will just make it barely into some of the nits. If you apply for home state quota I guess you will certainly qualify for some branches that are less in demand such as textile, food processing, integrated MSC, material science and metallurgy etc.
So, it's your decision to go for some better nit with your home state quota.

In order to get the rank below 40000 you have to score minimum 97.33 percentile in JEE mains and more than the mentioned percentile score.
