Dear Irshad,

There is nothing called passing marks in NEET Exam. In NEET, it is qualifying marks rather which is 50th percentile for general category and 40th percentile for reserved categories. Try to score 550+. Then you'll definitely get a government medical college.
If you want to score good marks in NEET then just follow simple steps -
Clear your basic concepts.
Be thorough with NCERT textbook. Its a must.
Solve previous year question papers.
Take mock tests to assess your progress.
Solve questions from any reference book you prefer for competitive exams
Solve as much as numerical possible.
Use shortcuts to solve to save your time. Formulas to be at your Fingertips.
All the best !

Hi Irshad!

Cut off for govt medical college vary from state to state.

Some highly competitive states, Cut off can be as high as 580-590 for general category.

On the other side, in states with very low competition, you can easily get govt medical seat as a ordinary score of 450 also for general category

Besides this it also vary from year to year.

As the no of candidates are increasing year by year, the cut off is reaching to new peak every year.

So, Be well prepared!!

Anything over 500 marks is a good score for government colleges. A definite shoe-in would be a score over 520. Good luck!

For admission through All India 15 % quota, you need to score above 570.

Cut off marks at 85% state quota level, can vary depending on which state you belong to

Nonetheless a score around 570 will keep you in the safe zone.

Please mention your desired college, so that I can provide you details of that.

However, generally a score of around 580 is sufficient to get a seat in All India quota and around 500 is enough for state quota seats.

All the best.

Hi Irshad,

  • It depends on which quota you opt for, whether 15% All India Quota or 85% State Quota. It also depends on your category, whether reserved or unreserved.

  • For instance, for 15% All India Quota, under General Quota, the closing rank, in the first round was 5579, which corresponds to a score of 510-520 marks out of 720. (2017 NEET statistics)

  • Therefore, Based on these trends, you must aim for a score of 540+ this year to ensure a seat in a good government Medical College.

I hope this information was helpful. All the very Best!
