Hello Aspirant,

Hope you are doing great. Republic, a system of government where representatives of the citizenry rule the state. Though who falls into the category of the people has changed over time, the idea that sovereignty belongs to the people is the foundation of modern republics. In a republic, the people hold the reins of power, but rather than exercising it themselves, they delegate it to elected officials who act in their best interests.

The two main reasons for describing India as a republic nation are mention below:

  1. On 26th January in 1950 the constitution of India was published by constitutional assembly and it is considered as the governing document of India which makes our nation republic.
  2. India also become an autonomous commonwealth country and separated from British monarch for becoming a sovereign republic in the commonwealth of nation.
