After your first attempt at JEE Main, you have two more attempts at the exam. Those two more attempts are valid for consequent years. Like for example, if you write your first JEE in 2019, you'll be eligible to write it again in 2020 and 2021.

Coming to your question, if, for example, you wrote your 12th board exams in 2019 and are planning on taking readmission in 12th standard, you'll write your board exams again in 2020. You'll have a chance to write JEE in 2020 and in 2021,provided you satisfy the required criterias. Hope it's clear to you :)
