meta cresol on bromination gives ?
Hello Apurv,
m-Cresol on treatment with Bromine water rapidly gives Tri-bromo methyl phenol. The chemical notation can be observed via the following link:

Hi Apurv.
Bromination or adding of Br2 to Meta Cresol or 3-methylphenol will give dibromomenthone, which is dehydrohalogenated by heating with quinoline (https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/pharmacology-toxicology-and-pharmaceutical-science/quinoline) to get thymol. If mixed with water, Bromine in m-cresol would yield tri-bromo Methylphenol.
3-methylphenol + Br2 ---> dibromo-menthone
3-methylphenol + Br2 +H2O ----> 2,4,6 tri-bromo-3-methylphenol
