Hello Student,

Methane gas can be prepared using carbides of Aluminium and Beryllium. These carbides on hydrolysis give methane gas.

1) Al4C3 + 12H2O ------> 3CH4 + 4Al(OH)4

2) Be2C + 4H2O --------> CH4 + 2Be(OH)2

Other Methods :

1) CH3MgBr + R'OH --------> CH4 + R'O-Mg-Br

2) CH3MgBr + R'NH2  -------->    CH4 + R'NH-Mg-Br

3) CH3MgBr + R'-CCH   -------->  CH4 + R'-CC-Mg-X
