Dear Anil,
If a Mechanical Engineer doesn’t posses required skills and is not job-ready or competent then he/she will be left unemployed. In the year 2015, according to the NIT Silchar Placement Report, Mechanical Engineering students were recruited by private companies as PSUs did not participated in the recruitment process. 60 percent students have been placed in IT sector and 24 percent in core sector jobs. The highest package was offered by ITC at Rs. 9.5 LPA and the average salary was Rs. 5 LPA. Starting salary for a mechanical who is not dumb will range around Rs. 2.5 to Rs. 12 lacs per annum depending on his/her institute, which industry is recruiting them and kind of role being offered are the main factors which has main say in this.
Salary of Mechanical Engineers from IITs I hope it helps.
