Section A: Reading (15 Marks)

  1. Unseen Passage (10 Marks)
    Read the passage below and answer the questions:

    A wise old owl sat on an oak tree. The more he saw, the less he spoke. The more he spoke, the less he heard. Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

    Questions: a) What did the wise old owl do?
    b) What lesson does the poem teach us?
    c) Find the synonym of "clever" from the passage.
    d) Write the opposite of "less."
    e) Suggest a title for the passage.

  2. Unseen Poem (5 Marks)
    Read the poem below and answer the questions:

    The sun sets in the west,
    Painting the sky with hues of rest.
    The stars awake to shine so bright,
    Guiding us through the peaceful night.

    Questions:
    a) What happens in the west according to the poem?
    b) What do the stars do?
    c) Write a synonym for "bright."
    d) Write the rhyme scheme of the poem.
    e) Suggest a title for the poem.


Section B: Writing (20 Marks)

  1. Letter Writing (10 Marks)
    Write a letter to your friend describing your plans for the summer vacation.

  2. Story Writing (10 Marks)
    Write a story with the moral "Honesty is the Best Policy." Begin your story with:
    "Once there was a poor woodcutter living near a forest..."


Section C: Grammar (25 Marks)

  1. Do as Directed (15 Marks)
    a) Change the sentence into passive voice:
    "She is reading a book."
    b) Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verb:

      c) Change into indirect speech:
    • Ram said, "I am playing football."
      d) Write the plural forms of:

Section D: Literature (20 Marks)

  1. Prose (10 Marks)
    Answer the following questions:
    a) What is the moral of the story "The Selfish Giant"?
    b) Who was Helen Keller, and why is she remembered?

  2. Poetry (5 Marks)
    Read the lines from the textbook and answer:
    "The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
    But I have promises to keep."

    a) Name the poet.
    b) What do "promises" refer to here?

  3. Supplementary Reader (5 Marks)
    a) Write a brief summary of the chapter "The Happy Prince."
    b) Why did the swallow stay back to help the prince?
