Instead of using silver coins, Muhammad bin Tughluq used copper ones. The silver coin of Tughluq was called a tanka. In 1330–1332 CE, Tughluq instituted the use of copper and brass coins as a kind of token money, equivalent in value to gold or silver coins. Jital, or copper coins, served as the standard currency under the first Delhi ruler.
