Hello,
To become a dentist you must pursue Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). To study BDS you must appear for NEET UG. The eligibility criteria to appear for NEET UG is as follows
- The minimum age of the candidate must be 17 years as on December 31, year of the entrance exam appearing.
- A candidate must have passed or appearing 10+2 with Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English from a recognised board.
- Candidates belonging to general category must have passed 10+2 with Biology Physics and Chemistry with minimum 50% marks, for SC/ST/OBC it is minimum 40% marks and for PWD it is 45% marks.
- Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to get admission only if they pass in the qualifying examination and fulfill the eligibility criteria
You need to qualify in NEET UG to be eligible to get admission. To qualify you need to score the minimum cut off marks and the cut off marks changes every year depending on number of candidates qualified, difficulty of exam and number of seats available etc. In 2020 the qualifying cut off marks were as follows category wise
- General: 147-720 marks
- SC/ST/OBC: 113-146 marks
- PWD(SC/ST/OBC): 113-128marks
- General PWD: 129-146 marks
Ypu need to score above the cut off marks to have decent chances of getting seat in a college. The marks scored in class 10th are not considered so you don't have to worry if you have scored less. You need to score the minimum marks in class 12th mentioned above.
