Yes, ofcourse you can study engineering, even that's a good score.
With the development of technology new disciplines like biotechnology, automobile engineering and genetic engineering have gained immense popularity among the students.
You can get admission into various reputed institutes in India like IITs, NITs, BITS, etc , if you are appearing for their entrance exams and would be able secure a good score. You can even get into State Government Engineering Colleges, if you have applied for it and would be able to make it.
After your B.tech you can go for M.tech through Gate that would let you get into IITs, NITs, BITS. And if you will have a good enough score, the you can directly get placed into PSUs like ONGC, SAIL, etc.
There are enough growth opportunities because of opening of MNCs and there is great demand for engineers in other countries with good logical and mathematical skills.
No doubt, you have to work for long hours and to stay away from friends and family but that would be compensated by your pachage and facilities that you will get.
So there are lot and lot of career opportunities in engineering.
Best of Luck for future.
First of all only the marks in 12th doesn't matter if you want to study in an engineering college. You need to apply for jee mains and try to clear the cut off marks and then sit for jee advance. By virtue of jee advance you can get admission into IIT's. The rank of jee mains will help you to find various other colleges like NIT's,IIIt's and other state engineering colleges.
While calculation of the rank of jee main the marks one has got in 12th comes into account. The marks in 12th are combined with the marks of jee mains and the rank is calculated. 400 marks in 12th is good enough to get admision in many colleges provided a near about 150 marks in jee mains which changes every year depending of the complexity of the questions asked and the performance of the students combined as a whole. thre are even speculations that from the ongoing year 12th marks are not going to play a major role in engineering colleges admissions.
By virtue of the marks in 12th you can even get admissions in state level colleges also , like those in West Bengal , Jharkhand , Punjab , Maharashtra , Chennai and many other states. But the proper way to apply for an engineering seat is to apply for the various exams are takken by the respective bodies and taking into consideration your stream which must be the number one priority.
AT the end of it all , in my opinion your 12th marks of 400 are sufficient to make you study in an engineering college.

Hi,
As far as pursuing Engineering is concerned, 400 is a good aggregate score and taking into consideration, 400/500 is 80% which is enough to get into any engineering college. For JEE Advanced, you need to be in the top 20 percentile of your board or, get 75% (Gen/ OBC) and 65% (SC/ ST). And, even without getting 75% marks in class 12th, you can pursue engineering in some very good colleges like BITS, DTU, Anna University, Jadavpur University, VIT, Manipal etc.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Hello! Hope you are doing well. Of course you can still study engineering in private colleges. Many private colleges provide seats if you clear their entrance exam or JEE Mains. You need to have 40-50% in your 12th. So you still have chance. Hope this helps you. Good luck!
