GATE 2025: Syllabus | Sample Papers
Dear Aspirant,
This is a very relative question. This depends from branch to branch, course to course and IITs to IITs.
For example in
IIT Delhi, for admission into most of the branches, the minimum requirement is 65% in B.tech or 6.5 CGPA. However in some of the courses, they even ask for CGPA of 7.5 in B.Tech.
IISc Banglore, the best institute for Masters in Engineering in India, don't consider your B.Tech precentage at all for most of the branches. All they care about is you perform well (extrelemy well) in GATE exam and you can get direct admission into many of the programs there.
IIT Madras, Bombay, Kanpur, Roorkee asks for min 60% or CGPA of 6.0 to admission to it's programs.
You can find details here:

IIT Kanpur, Roorkee asks for min 55% or CGPA of 5.5 to admission to it's programs.

IIT Kharagpur and IIT Guwahati asks for min 60% or CGPA of 6.5 / 10.

So, if you work really hard and score a good GATE rank, you can get admission into many of the good IITs even with a score of 59% in B.Tech.
Hope this helps.
