Hello amber,actually jee mains is eligible for those students who have passed 3 years aback of appearing year of exam,ie if someone wants to sit in 2019 then he has to pass 12th exam either in 2017,2018 or 2019,so hope you're getting it.Now i can understand the situation that your gateway to getting into the top premiere colleges of engineering seems to be closed but no that's not fully true,it's partially true.
I would prefer you to give few state government engineering exams or private college entrance test,and take your btech then prepare well for GATE exam and yes after this you can get into various nits,iits,iiits and gftis of india.So study hard never give up.
You can also try to get msc degree and then give iit jam for pursuing higher studies in iits.
Then if you're are in private engineering college then also no problem.You can do interns at iits and specially iit gandhinagar have also opened few open courses for non iit students too.

Since you have given your Class 12 Board exam in 2017, you cannot sit for JEE Mains 2020, even after sitting for improvement this year. The eligibilty criteria for students who failed in their Class 12 exam is as follows:
- If you appeared for Class 12 in 2017 but failed in the subject and are appearing in 2018, you are not eligible. However, if you appeared in 2018 and have failed in one subject, you have cleared it in 2019, you are eligible. If you have failed in 2018 and are appearing in 2020, you are eligible to appear for JEE Main 2020 examination.
