Hello maam,

Firstly congratulations to your daughter.

Now to answer your question I would say firstly ,to begin, keep in mind that there are no wrong subjects. What you find fascinating may not appeal to others, and vice versa. There's also the issue of having the correct type of teachers. Even if he/she is teaching your favourite subject, a Professor with bad communication skills or a lack of understanding competency in the field might bore you to death. This is true across the board, not just in Mechanical Engineering. Not to mention that a lot is dependent on the student. Like any other branch or department, this one has produced some outstanding pupils in the past. Nurali Virani and Aneesh Reddy, for example, completed their B.tech in MF. (Their curriculum vitae can be seen on the IIT KGP DC website.)

Manufacturing Science and Engineering is not a separate department, but rather a subject inside the Mechanical Engineering department. There isn't much of a difference between Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Science and Engineering. However, it is safe to conclude that ME is concerned with engineering design and manufacturing, whereas MF is concerned with manufacturing as well as some aspects of design and optimization. Many students attempt to bridge the gap by enrolling in the required topics as electives or breadths. Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and other related sciences are among them.

In terms of the course's future, the placement scenario does not look promising. As far as I know  to be honest, it's abysmal, may be its sounding really bad but what actually is true, l m just saying that.  If you are a student who wants to pursue a career in your field of study, your only alternative is to travel abroad for further education. If you want to pursue higher education, this course is just as good as any other.

Despite the fact that much of the work they conduct is related to manufacturing, most Indian core companies are only willing to hire ME students rather than MF students. This has been the case for several years, and one of the causes could be the course's low exposure among employers, with most HR departments unaware of the course's structure.

You are not losing too much if you lose interest in the subject throughout your time at IIT, which occurs to the majority of students (from all departments). You can always try to get a job in a non-core company (which is not all that easy by the way).

Everything comes down to the student in the end. There have been students who excelled in their subjects and went on to further their education. There have been cases where students did not perform well academically yet were placed with high pay packages. There have also been students who have completed both tasks. There may be a few difficult times, but students from all departments encounter them. Learning to pick yourself up while everything around you is attempting to drive you down is what the IIT experience is all about.

Manufacturing Science and Engineering is a study of Mechanical Engineering and is not a separate department. The distinction between the study of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Science and Engineering is not strong. These courses include Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics etc.

Regarding the future of this study, the placement status is not very encouraging. In fact, it's bad. If you are a student who would like to continue your major career, the only option you have is to fly abroad to get a higher education. If you are planning to pursue higher education, this is a good course
