Actually it depends on the branch in which you are appearing in the GATE Examination ie if you are in
1.Chemical Engg...its not that much good but you can get NIT easily
2.Mechanical Engg....Same as in the case of Chemical Engg
3.Electronics Engg...Here in electronics with your score you can new IITs with your score
4.Electrical Engg...Here it's same as electronics...
And for other branches also it depends upon the level of the exam and number appearing students for that exam....
