It is usually advised to fill the choices as per the preference of colleges and departments, for example CSE in NIT Trichy is your priority followed by CSE in NIT Warangal, you can fill CSE at NIT Trichy at serial number 1 and CSE at NIT Warangal at serial number 2 and so on and so forth.
but the previous cut off of colleges should be taken in consideration, it is better to research over the cut off of colleges then make a preference list of colleges and fill accordingly
for the college preferences and to know which colleges participate in the JOSAA counselling, please go to the below mentioned link: https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/josaa-participating-institutes/amp
Hello Lavkush!
You should have mentioned your home state quota at least. Anyways, in Josaa you may only get lower NITs. Like you can get seat in NIT Shillong, NIT Sikkim, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, NIT Silchar, NIT Agartala, etc. Also you may get seat in GFTIs like GGV Bilaspur, HNB Garhwal, J.K institute of Applied Physics, etc.
It will be better to get NITs rather than those GFTIs.
Hope that helps!
Hello,
As you have mentioned that your jee mains 2019 rank is 41k, I suggest you to go through the cut offs of the nits before you fill out your choices in the counselling process. According to the previous year cut off trends you might get branches like chemical and mining with the home state quote in some mediocre to low nits. I suggest you to go through the cut offs and look out for the branches you are interested in and then fill them carefully
Good Luck!
With a rank of 41k you can easily get into NIT colleges through home state quota but with lower engineering branches. You cannot get into other state NIT colleges with this rank. You can also try getting g admission in IIIT colleges. There are colleges which accept jee main percentile for admission.

With your mentioned rank it is highly unlikely for you to get into NITs. You could still apply for the josaa counselling process and try your luck. But I would suggest you to try for state level engineering colleges which accept JEE main scores. You could get good colleges and your desired branch. You could use the following link to know which colleges you might get based on your scores.

Hope this helps.
