It depends on your category(general, OBC, SC/ST, etc).  If general, OBC chances of getting into NIT's is less, you might get into new NIT's but not the generally desired branches like CSE,MECH,ECE,EEE,etc,

Else if SC/ST you can get into a good NIT and desired Branch.
