According to the rank you mentioned here is quite good but there are  chances of getting into good college based on the state you do belong and the counseling procedure .

According to your rank you cannot get an admission in NIT. Your rank is too high to get into any NIT. Even though you try your luck and attend the counselling there is very less chance for you to get into your desired South India NIT'S (as you have  mentioned interest in South Indian NIT'S) .You may get a branch which Students prefer.
