JEE Mains is an annual exam that is conducted by the National Testing Agency and the CBSE for admissions to undergraduate engineering courses in NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and other institutes. It also serves as the first stage for admission to IITs through JEE Advanced.

EWS is a new category that has been created by the MHRD for economically weaker sections. 10% seats will be reserved for those candidates whose annual family income is less than INR 8 lakh per annum.

As for your question, considering your marks and that you are a general category aspirant, you should be able to get admission in middle tier NITs like Rourkela, Calicut, Bhopal, etc. if he compromises with the branch that he gets.
