Sir,

As the details you provided about the results of your son, your son can surely get the seat in IIT Madras.
As you have not mentioned your category, I am considering you in General only.
With this category , you should apply for JoSAA counselling and definitely seat will be grabbed by your son.

The preference for filling the form, according to me should be:
1.) Chemical Engineering
2.) Material Engineering
3.) Biological Engineering

First of all, in Chemical Engineering the rank for General is till 3300 but still if it didn't get filled then your son, has full chance to take it.

If he didn't get it, then in Materials and Biological Engineering, he will surely get the seat.

I am mentioning the link through which you can check the cut offs trends and the courses cut offs also:

Through this you can easily access all the details of the colleges, in which your son is eligible for.

Hope that my answer helped you.

Good Wishes and All The Best to your son for future endeavours!!

THANK YOU

Dear parent,

As your son got 3785 rank in JEE advanced to the and I am assuming that he got this rank from the general category and he can easily get many good iits along with IIT Madras which is top IIT in India.

Now if he wants to choose branches chemical engineering, metallurgical and materials engineering, and biological engineering then in josaa counselling his preferred order should be chemical engineering after that metallurgical and materials engineering and after that biological engineering .
Because the scope of chemical engineering is much better than metallurgical and biological engineering. And also the placement records of chemical engineering is better in iitm than metallurgical and biological engineering.
Also it is one of the trending and demanding branches in India.
And after that metallurgical and materials engineering has greater scope than biological engineering.

But as per seeing the last year cutoff trend of chemical engineering, then your son has low chances to get chemical engineering in IIT Madras this year, but still his preferred order should be chemical engineering first in IIT Madras in josaa counseling.
