Sir,this is the result of the January Main Exam,The final result to be announced by NTA will be based on the best of two percentile which will differ fue to the April Main result. Because this percentile tends to differ depending on the number of students appearing for the April exam. The cutoff for admission to all colleges will be announced only after the final result that is after 30th April,2019.Depending on the present percentile, according to me admission to NIT or IIT is difficult ( being in General Category). Nothing can be told for sure now so my suggestion is you must wait for the final result on or after April.
To get admission in any of the NITs, the minimum required percentile is 98+%ile
However, your son's percentile score is very less to get admission anywhere or even qualify JEE Mains-(Jan).
If he has a target for any of the NITs- then he has to work more hard and appear for the second attempt of JEE Mains in April so as to improve his percentile. The best of the 2 scores will be selected.
Hope this helps.!
