My son wants to pursue science and do fundamental research also. What is the pathway, he should do b.tech or b.sc?
If he is interested in basic science then he should stick to it. A lot of people do not realise the potential of it. There are many premiere and research driven institutions. You can join a research driven institution for B.Sc. Nowadays, M.Sc integrated programs are also there. B.Sc won't be enough. M.Sc should be done for research. M.Sc integrated course would be an excellent option.
Also, Indians are very sought after doctoral and post doctoral around the world in basic sciences. Across the world in Korea, China, middle east, Europe, America, doctoral and post doctoral will be populated with Indian students. Nowadays, there are quite high paying jobs also and its easy to sustain jobs around the world. So, if he has an inclination towards science, he should take science degree instead of engineering.

Hi,
B.tech and b.sc with both paths one can do research. B.tech is bachelor's degree course in technology here one studies how to apply the known existing knowledge to real world. B.sc is bachelor's in science where one learns all the basic or foundation principles, theories, concept of science.
So If your son is interested in fundamental research he should join bachelor's in science courses. If he is interested more in applicative parts he should join b.tech
There are some good institutions in India which are facilitating the research so you should look for admission to such institution which facilitates research like IISER, IITs etc.
Hope you find this helpful.
