VIT has category system. Suppose there are 1000 seats in Computer Science branch at the Vellore campus. Then first 7000 will be given to top rank holders at the fees displayed on the website. This is category 1. Next 1000 seats are given to people with higher rank( say 20000) at around 1.5 times the fees. This is category 2.

Similarly, this trend goes on. So if you are willing to pay more, it is likely that you will get a seat in the branch of your choice in chennai campus. Also, there is a chance that you can get a seat in Vellore campus in 4th or 5th category.

Note: These are just rough numbers to guide you. You will be thoroughly explained these details in the counseling process.

There is no official data available for new campuses. Still you have no chance at VIT chennai campus. 

But you can get some good options at VIT bhopal and AP campus.
