Dear student,

The simple reason for this is :-

NaOH is an inorganic compound which is Ionic in nature. On the other hand, alcohols are organic compounds .
And Na is a metal not carbon, because majority of the alcohols are bonded by carbon atoms. And presence of OH group doesn't make a metal or non metal an alcohol.
Moreover, the alcoholic compound show its acidic character when H atom is removed or liberated from that compound. But as NaOH is a base, so H cannot be removed. It is present in the form of ions of Na+ and OH- ions and have ionic bonds between them. But covalent compounds like alcohols are present in form of single molecule amd are bonded by single covalent bonds or in some rare cases double covalent bonds.

Hi.

NaOH is a substance that exhibits properties similar to alkali, not alcohols. For example, it is highly soluble in polar solvents like water, and completely insoluble in non polar solvents. Alcohols are mostly organic compounds while NaOH is an inorganic compound. Because of some more properties, it is more accurate not to place it in alcohols.

Hello, alcohols name is given for OH group in organic compounds. An organic compound can be simply classified as a compound that is made up of carbon- hydrogen bond. While remaining compounds are termed as inorganic compounds and the OH group in them is termed as hydroxide.

Hope this helps.
