First of all, 540 is indeed a good score. So I recommend you to try for government medical colleges first. If you belong to any of the reserved category then you will definitely get a seat in any of the top govtmedical colleges of Karnataka.
If you are specific about private college then you can go for it. However, the fees will be very high for private colleges.

You haven't mentioned your Category and the State that you hold the domicile of. This is important because if you hold the domicile of Karnataka, you have decent chances of getting a GMC with this score. But if you do not hold the domicile of Karnataka, then you have chance in:
