Key Qualifications are as follows:

1. Academic Qualifications:

• Ph.D. Requirement: All disciplines require a Ph.D. for a professor's appointment. Candidates should have earned a doctorate from a recognized institution.
• NET/SET Qualification: It is essential to have NET or SET cleared to apply for assistant professors, although NET/SET cleared remains the qualification for the faculty who do not possess a Ph.D.

2. Teaching Experience:

• At least 10 years of teaching experience in a university or college is required to look for promotion to the post of professor.
• Associate Professorship: To acquire full professor rank, a candidate must be at the rank of associate professor for a minimum period of 3 years with a proven track record of research and publication.

3. Contributions to Research:

• Candidate must have outstanding publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.
• Contributions to the research projects and participation in scholarly bodies such as editorial boards or peer-review committees are also highly valued.

4. Academic Performance Indicator (API):

• A new API score system evaluates a candidate's research output, teaching quality, and contributions to administrative work. Professors should have an API score of at least that level to qualify for promotion.
• The new set of standards is intended to ensure that the professors are only those who not only maintain academic qualifications but also actively perform research, teaching, as well as other forms of development work within the institutions.
