Though there is an exhaustive list of novels which are recommended for CAT aspirants, I feel that its more about engaging in the literature which you read. There is no point in reading a 500 page novel just because someone who has cracked CAT read it before appearing for his exam. You should take up books/magazines/novels/newspapers that have a good content and are akin to your personal choice.

I used to read mythology and history which is not a usually recommended stream. However, because I read them with full interest I was able to improve my comprehension skills!

Hope that helps!

Along with novels, read newspaper editorials and articles because of 2 reasons:

1) They enhance your knowledge of current affairs and help you form opinions on the same. Useful for later rounds (WAT, GD and PI)

2) They are more similar to RCs which come in CAT. Novels are rather voluminous.

Some of the novels you can read are:

1. A tale of two cities - Charles Dickens

2. Animal Farm - George Orwell

3. Works of R L Stevenson

On Indian History

1. The Discovery of India

2. Freedom at Midnight

Success Stories

1. Rich Dad, Poor Dad (Personal Finance)

2. Seven habits of highly effective people

Management

  • Pepsi to Apple
  • Toyota Way
  • The leadership pipeline
  • The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho
Some other:

1. Thinking Fast and Slow (Daniel Kahneman)

2. A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson)

3. Manufacturing Consent (Noam Chomsky)

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
