For UPSC Civil Services Examination you need to be graduate from any recognized university from any field.

You can do simple graduation such as B.sc or can choose B.tech or MBBS.

People who target UPSC Civil Services Examination prefer doing graduation in humanities stream as it  helps a lot during  preparations.

Choice is yours choose the option which satisfies you best.

Good Luck

Hey Chethan.

As you're in Class 12th and want to become an IAS/IPS fficer, you need to complete any Undergraduation course first to be eligible to take the IAS exam. You can attempt the exam in the final year of your degree hence you cant start it's preparation during you degree too. There are three stages in an IAS exam- Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination and Personal Interview. The Prelims exam will include General Knowledge and Aptitude. You need to clear the prelims in order to qualify for the Mains exam. You need to choose one of the subject of your choice for the Mains paper. Hence you can choose any subject which you have an interest in.  Now you can select a degree which will also be helpful by selecting it as one of your subjects. If you choose to pursue your UG degree in any science field, you can choose that too. Now, that would totally depend on your interest. People attempt these exams even after BTech and MBBS. But you can also go for Bsc in a subject if your choice if your main aim is finally IAS/IPS.

Best of luck

hello aspirant,

  • The basic eligibility criteria is one should posses graduation  ( any discipline)from recognized university /institute.
  • after 12th, it is not possible to go for IAS /IPS
  • so you should posses a graduation.
  • after that, inorder to become IAS officer you need to apply for "CSE" exam conducted by UPSC .
  • CSE stands for civil servants exam

    • thank you
