Hello,
Oesophagus is the tube that carries food from mouth to stomach. It is present behind the trachea and heart. It passes from diaphragm and ends at the uppermost part of stomach. The movement of food down to oesophagus is aided by peristaltic movement. It starts from 6th cervical vertebra and ends to 11th thoracic vertebra.
Hope it helps.
