If the oxidation of an alkyne with hot concentrated KMnO4 gives only propanoic acid then the alkyne is propyne.

Propyne will get oxidized due to KMnO4 and get a unstable form from which the water will drain out and it form propanol. Which again get oxidised with KMnO4 and then finally form propanoic acid.
