Phosphorus doped silicon is a semiconductor. why?

Hello student,
To know about that at first you should know about the periodic table. There are four valence electrons in phosphorus . So so in the time of doping of phosphorus with silicon those valence electrons gets involved with neighbour silicon atoms.but 5th Valence electron become free to conduct the electricity. So due to the excess electrons Phosphorus doped silicon become a semiconductor.
