Question : Play has been defined as behaviour for the purpose of fun and enjoyment with no utilitarian or abstract coal in mind. It is suggested that play must serve a number of functions including allowing us to use up surplus energy; it let's rehearse skills; it serves a recuperative; and it helps us to reduce anxiety. A game is a playful competition whose outcome is determined by physical skill, strategy or chance. In play rules are less prevalent then in games, but latter involves competition.

Sports is institutionalized game. It is organised in terms of governing bodies, leagues ,sponsors and managers. It involves technology development in equipment, clothing and facilities. It has symbolic dimension in the form of a ceremony ritual display and secrecy. Finally it has an educational aspect and involves a degree of physicality.

Exercise is a form of physical activity carried out for the purpose of health and fitness the main difference between sport and exercise is competition; also exercise typically does not involve the same degree of institutionalization that characterizes sport.

Sports psychology and exercise psychology can be respectively define as study of thoughts, feelings and behaviour in relation to either the sporting or the exercise domain sport and exercise psychology are actually two endeavours.

The first involves the work of getting information about the role of mental factors in physical domains. It is about the pure science of doing research, including theory building and conducting investigations. In contrast the second endeavour is concerned with applied science. In broad terms given the certanality of competition to sport the sports psychologist is to help athletes to enhance the performance. For the applied exercise psychologist the focus is to help people to lead physically and mentally healthy lives and increasing participation in And enjoyment from physical activity.
