All The Best!!
Naval Architects specialise in warship and submarine construction. A Naval Architect is involved in design, quality control, repair and construction of Naval vessels. In no other career, an Architecture Officer gets exposed to such wide developments. The Naval Architecture Cadre offers excellent opportunities to keep abreast of advancements in ship-building technology.
In addition to these, the study of naval architecture also deals with the design and manufacturing of offshore structures of all kinds whether commercial or military.
in India, the universities offering the best naval architecture courses of the country are:
Indian Maritime University, Visakhapatnam Campus
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras
One would have to qualify in the IMU-CET test (a common entrance exam) for being eligible to be offered admission to Indian Maritime University, Visakhapatnam Campus. For the IITs, one would have to secure a decent rank in the IIT-JEE (Advanced) examination.
There are other private universities that offer this course. Admission to these institutions can be secured by qualifying their respective entrance examinations.
Career of navel architect in India
Naval architects were always in demand ,but to get one packed with the right skills in desired areas is little difficult.
Naval architecture is simply not confined with ships ,it includes everything floating : RIGS ,anaconda power generators ,offshore wind-turbines etc.
But , even though there is a requirement of naval architect in many firms ,not all will be willing to employ one. But ,if you don't like this degree and whatever is taught is not as per your taste ,this will not be your cup of tea. This is not a course that you can somehow adjust and get through .You need to develop good interest.
But , the time ain't good for naval architects. The glory of University Departments where Naval architecture was taught is getting faded. Oil price went down horribly ,the chartering cost of ships went down. Many ships remain unchartered or is being chartered on loss. Shipbuilding yards in India is not recruiting naval architects like before.
Graduate Naval architects find it difficult to find good job these days. Small Design firms make use of this scenario and employ naval architects at meagre pay. Few years back , the placement percentage at Department of Ship Technology ,Cochin University was 300% ince ,ie. there was a time when each student used to get 3 offers. Now it is considered lucky that somehow someone get one job offer there. Naval architecture graduates from IIT Kharagpur and Madras used to envy Naval architecture students of CUSAT. That kind of scenario will not come again in the nearby future.
I hope it works
All the best
