SSC Stenographer is conducted in two phase, the first one is computer based test conducted for two hours carrying 200 marks, the medium of the test is English/Hindi, there are three sections such as

General Awareness which includes topics such as events of national and international importance along with India and its Neighboring countries especially pertaining to  geography, history, culture, economy, general polity including indian constitution, and scientific research etc,

General Intelligence and Reasoning includes topics such as arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts,

English Language  and Comprehension - Understanding of english language is tested in this section along with vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure,synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, writing ability etc.

For each correct answer one mark is awarded, for each wrong attempt 0.25 marks is deducted, once candidates qualify the cut-offs for the first stage next comes  the second stage which is skill test (this is only qualifying by nature)where candidates will be provided a diction of ten minutes at 100 wpm for Group C post, and eight minutes at 80 wpm for Group D posts, and thereafter they are required to transfer the information on to the computer within the  time limit as provided below-

Group C

English - 40 mins, for those with scribe get 55 mins

Hindi - 55 mins, for those with scribe get 75 mins

Group D

English - 50 mins, for those with scribe get 70 mins

Hindi - 65 mins, for those with scribe get 90 mins

The merit list is finally prepared on the scores of computer based test only.
