It has many sub fields I will list out some fields and details that I know for more details please go ahead and google it.1) Networking - basically internet working and their security and planning to decide where a router is supposed to be used and where a switch is to be used and correcting defects and trouble shooting for big complex networks. Also their security is to be handled by network security engineers for which you need hardware as well as software knowledge.2) Signal systems - which is transmission and recieving of signals that includes digaitally processing singnals for transmission and encoding them using various algorithms and designs also analog transmission of signals and reception which is used for deciding the height of antena, power of antena, antena design, etc.This field has a limited scope in India3) Embedded systems and hardware development - programming hardware drivers, ports, kernals, etc. to make hardware react the way it is ment to. And you will also be expected to design and implement circuts many times for hardware development, developing power electronic circuits and their softwares.4) Robotics - programming hardware for robotic actions and implemanting machine learning for robotics and automation. Robotics include the automatic machine paint machine type of machines used in painting cars and many automation machines. It does not necessarily mean making 'terminators' for 'skynet'. ;p5) Also you can apply in any IT sector jobs like for java, dbms, .net, c#, data science, cloud security, etc.These are the sub fields I know that an EC engineer workes on.
