HI...
CAT is tougher than NIMCET. But you can prepare for both the exams.
English and Mathematics is almost of the same level in both. But Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation much harder in CAT than in NIMCET. There are also 10 questions of Computer Awareness.
One major difference between CAT and NIMCET is that in CAT, all the subjects are given equal weight-age and there are almost same number of questions of each subject. But this is not the case in NIMCET.
To do well in NIMCET, one must know the concepts of mathematics very well. In-fact, you can get into one of the top NIT’s just by doing all the maths questions and answer at least one question right in the other sections.
NIMCET has advanced maths and computer section which means more topics to cover in addition to aptitude which is in CAT. CAT is tougher with respect to question level and competition.
Competition in CAT is tougher because most top brains of the country across streams compete for CAT while only mostly BCA/BSC-IT students go for NIMCET. Moreover the number of applicants for CAT is lots more than for NIMCET which makes the competition higher in CAT.
Best luck
