Pls mention all drawbacks of IIT Guwahati in comparison to other 6 old iits?? (infrastructure ,placements, internships, academics)?
Hi dear,
Hope you are doing well!
Now let's go through your question.
So basically, IIT Guwahati is just 19 years old while the other IITs have crossed 50 years.
Research at IIT Guwahati is lacking as the quality of Phd and M.Tech program is not upto the mark. Also at B.Tech level, students aren't motivated enough to stay at IIT Guwahati to do research.
Some of the important points about IIT-G:
- It closes far later than older iits(mostly in all courses) so you have the option of pursuing your choice.
- Infrastructure, 24x7 A/C Labs, Campus, Hostels etc are really good.
- The peer group that you get always have some mind-blowing people who will surpass the students of all the older iits in terms of research and jobs.
- Placements are good and at par with older iits.
- People do get to MIT, CMU, Harvard, Stanford after their B.Techs. So even if your plan is to get a MS, it won't be the case that you would less opportunity than others.
Thank You & All the best!
Dear student, IIT Guwahati is just 24 years old while the other IITs have crossed 50 years.

The good things that I want to highlight is that about the cse program:
1. It closes far later than older iit's cse so you have the option of pursuing your choice.
2. Infrastructure, 24x7 A/C Labs, Campus, Hostels, etc are really good.
3. The peer group that you get always have some mind-blowing people who will surpass the students of all the older iits in terms of research and jobs.
4. Placements are good and at par with older iits.
5. People do get to MIT, CMU, Harvard, Stanford after their B.Techs. So even if your plan is to get a MS, it won't be the case that you would less opportunity than others.
Some points that I felt where IIT Guwahati really needs improvement.
1. Attracting faculty in good numbers for different research areas.
2. Restructing the course structure so that the students have more freedom of selecing their electives.
3. Motivating students to do research during their college life.
