You can get government jobs in any stream you choose. Types of jobs depends on which stream you choose in graduation. Depending on which stream you choose , you have variety of government jobs.
Like , if you choose engineering, after the engineering , while in 4th sem , if you take up GATE exam and if you qualify, You can get variety of government jobs related to PSU.
PSU , also called Public Sector Union is a public sector enterprise . They are state owned enterprises. They are union government of India. SO it is one of the Government jobs. It has been a new trend and has a lot of demand.

Other than PSUs, you have various other government jobs which is common for all the fields irrespective of specialization. They include  Railway jobs, Bank jobs, IAS and other UPSC jobs, Civil services etc.

For all the above mentioned jobs (government jobs specifically) , You need to have a qualified degree. Any degree is fine, need not necesarily be an engineer or a doctor.

If you end up doing medical and still you want government job, you can join as Doctor in any government medical hospitals. You can also become professoers and join government colleges.
IF you take up any other basic degree, then along with UPSC, civil services, and other government jobs, you can also become associate professor or professors in any government colleges, or you can also join as teachers in any government pre university college or schools.

There are variety of Government jobs, it depends on what type of job you are interested in. You cna take up any stream as Having completed of Undergraduation is mandatory for any GOvernment job.
