If you are intrested in opting for B-Tech in Punjab, i want to tell you that there is no separate exam for government colleges in Punjab. Punjab Technical college takes admission on the basis of the your rank in JEE Mains and on the basis of your class 12 marks. Then of course we have NIT Jalandhar and IIT Ropar, admissions in these colleges is clearly based upon your ranks in JEE Mains and JEE Advance.
Apart from these govt colleges, Punjab have few other good govt colleges too like, GNDEC, DAVIET, GNDU.
If you get into a govt college then it's well and good, but you should always have a backup options with you. There are few good private colleges too in Punjab, Thapar University, renowned in whole country, they conduct there different paper for admissions into engineering program, and really Thapar is a good institute, it's situated in Patiala, Punjab.
Then we have Lovely Profession University in Jalandhar, in a very short time this university have gained a lot of popularity, because of its infrastructure, its quality of education and yes the diversity here. You will get a lot of options here to explore in this university. To take admission into this university you have to give LPUNEST, this exam will also help you to get a good scholarship in this university. Notification of LPUNEST will be floating from March ending.
Chandigarh university is also a good option if you want to experience a good lifestyle, as Chandigarh is the centre for all the students coming from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other nearby states. Again for CU you have to give their respective paper.
I hope that answers your questions. Feel free to ask anything regarding admissions into engineering.
