It is better to know about the exam pattern of the exam before start preparing for that. It will provide you the actual idea related to the questions which will be asked in the exam. The RRB ALP Exam is going to be conducted in 4 stages as given below –

1. First Stage CBT

2. Second Stage CBT

3. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (For ALP Only)

4. Documents Verification

First Stage CBT – This is of screening nature. It consists total 75 questions of Maths, general science, general intelligence and reasoning and general awareness on current awareness. The time duration of the exam is 60 minutes.

Second Stage CBT – It has two parts i.e. Part A and Part B.

Part A consists 100 questions of Maths, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering and General Awareness on Current Awareness. The time duration of Part A is 90 minutes.

Part B includes 75 questions of Relevant Trade. Time duration of Part B is 60 minutes.

According to that, the Second Stage CBT paper has total 175 question which will be attempted by the candidates in 2 hours 30 minutes.

There shall be negative marking for Incorrect answers in First and Second Stage CBT Exam. 1/3rd of the total marks would be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Computer-Based Aptitude Test (For ALP Only) – This shall be conducted only for candidates applying for ALP Exam. There is no negative marking in Computer-Based Aptitude Test.

The candidates need to secure at least 42 marks in each of the tests to qualify the exam. There is no relaxation permissible at this stage and is applicable for all qualified candidates.

After qualifying all these stages, candidates will reach to the final round i.e. document verification.

The exam will be conducted in three stages – First Stage CBT, Second Stage CBT and Computer Based Aptitude Test.

First stage CBT will be held for 75 marks and comprise 75 objective type questions. The duration of the first stage of exam is 60 minutes. As per marking scheme, one mark will be allotted for each correct answer while 0.33 marks will be deducted for incorrect responses. Applicants of RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) will need to appear for the Computer Based Aptitude Test (AT).

Questions in the test will be asked both in Hindi and English.

Candidates will be shortlisted for the Second Stage CBT on the basis of scores obtained in the first stage CBT. Applicants will be selected for Second Stage CBT based on the normalised marks secured in first stage CBT. As prescribed in the exam pattern of RRB ALP 2018, the second stage will be conducted for a total duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. However, the stage is divided into two parts – Part A and Part B. Part A will be held for 90 minutes while candidates have to complete Part B within 60 minutes. The number of candidates selected for second stage exam will be 15 times the number of vacancies available in ALP and Technician posts.

Applicants of RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) will need to appear for the Computer Based Aptitude Test (AT). Questions in the test will be asked both in Hindi and English. The merit list for ALP candidates will be prepared for applicants who have secured the qualifying marks in the Computer Based Aptitude Test. These candidates will be able to participate in the document verification. Total 70% weightage will be placed in marks secured in Second Stage CBT Part A and 30% weightage will be given to the score of Computer Based Aptitude Test.
